I love things made of natural materials like marble because they fit right into my mid-century modern design aesthetic. I also love the neutral tones that look awesome on my quartz kitchen countertops- it actually looks much better in person than in the photos. One of the things that surprised me so much about this fruit bowl is how heavy and high quality it is. I didn’t realize it was going to weigh so much but that definitely speaks to the high quality of the materials used. I also really love the shape and size of this marble bowl. It has a curved edge to it so it definitely functions as a bowl for fruit and nothing will spill over the edge if you decide to fill it with apples, oranges, bananas, etc. At the same time, it also works as a decorative stand for displaying things. For example, you could put cupcakes, chocolates, a round cake, etc. on it for a birthday or a party. It could even work in a bathroom as a display for things like perfumes or other cosmetics. This is one of those items that looks much better in person than in the photos. The dimensions make it seem like it would be quite small but in person it looks and feels large and substantial. It’s a really great size to put in the middle of a kitchen table or a kitchen island, for example. The price is under $70 right now and that’s a great deal for something made of real marble. It is high quality and absolutely beautiful- would even make a great housewarming gift for a picky friend with a mid-century modern design. After viewing the product photos I’m glad I ordered it in brown, which seemed to have the smoothest finish. Indeed it does, while retaining 100% of that gorgeous marble look.My wife is currently using it as a plant stand. Due to its weight (over 6 pounds) and strength of material it easily supports 3 of the tall variety without any hint of possibly tipping over.Although I’d trust placing food into it, you still need to be careful about certain types.I’m not speaking of any possibility of food contamination, but instead a concern of damaging the bowl’s surface. Ironically, that would include acidic fruits like oranges and tomatoes, since any sort of marble that’s not completely sealed is susceptible to staining and/or etching from those acids. Of course, all of that can be completely avoided by simply protecting it by using a non-porous liner of your choice.As for the price, believe it or not, it’s actually a great bargain. Do a web search for marble bowls of this size, weight, and craftsmanship and you’ll discover most are much higher in cost.Variation: Color: Brown
