5.0 out of 5 stars For A Hand Mixer or a Stand Mixer - Think KitchenAid I currently own a ” KitchenAid Ultra Power Plus 5 speed hand mixer ” ( see photos ) that I purchased 15 to 20 years ago for $79.99. I’m pleased to inform everyone that this hand mixer has never failed to produce and is still in excellent working and cosmetic condition after all those years and at least a hundred uses during that time frame. I decided I would purchase the new KitchenAid Architect KHM926Cu Digital 9 speed hand mixer and compare there performance. The only reason I purchased this item is because Sears.ca had it on sale for a few days ago for a whopping $52.00 off the regular price of $129.99 or ( $77.99 ).I decided I would make a batch of “Soft and Chewy Oatmeal Cookies” and use them both during the mixing portion of this recipe. Anyone who bakes will certainly agree that any cold butter cookie dough recipe is a challenging recipe for any hand mixer and the torque from the hand mixer can be brutal on your wrist. A KitchenAid Pro Line 7qt Stand mixer is the correct tool for this task but there is a lot more cleaning involved when using a stand mixer and its a great recipe to gauge the quality of your current hand mixer.I would have placed this review on Amazon.ca ( my favourite place to buy things ) but unfortunately at this time this item it is not currently being sold by Amazon.ca. Hopefully my neighbours to the south will benefit from this very honest and in-depth review of this product even though it’s not a verified purchase through Amazon.com. I will post it on Amazon.ca as soon as I see it listed and shipped and sold by Amazon.ca.There is very little difference in size or weight or balance for these two items. They both stand on there end on the counter and the older 5 speed sits more secure and sold ( less likely to tip over ) than the new 9 speed. The cord length is generous on both but the 5 speed power cord is in a fixed position on one side while the 9 speed offers the versatility of changing the power cord position either to the left or right or centre on the hand mixer. The new 9 speed power cord also has avery nice and permanent rubber strap at the end of the power cord that allows you to neatly fold up the power cord for easier and better storage. The 5 speed only came with a pair of quality stainless steel beaters and the new 9 speed comes with a better grade of beaters, 2 dough hooks , 1 whip and 1 blending tool that can be inserted in either side of the hand mixer. It should be noted that the dough hooks are intended for lighter recipes or less dense mixtures than bread dough like tea biscuits etc. It’s doubtful in my mind ( and I’m not even going to try ) to make bread dough using a hand mixer with dough hooks. A stand mixer is far better suited for that task .Both these units use powerful Direct -Current Motors and both produced the very same top speed and torque. If there was any difference between the 5 speed on high ( #5 setting ) and the 9 speed on high ( #9 setting ) it was not detectable by yours truly. The Digital 9 speed does have a definite lower speed on #1 setting than my older 5 speed and thats a blessing. The 9 speed automatically goes to the lowest setting ( #1 ) every time it is turned and I like that feature. The digital control on the 9 speed is slower than the old slide mechanism on the 5 speed when adjusting the up and down speeds. On the 9 speed you must push the arrow once for every increase or decrease in speed. The amount of torque on my wrist from both was the same and the noise generated from both was identical and not as quiet as some have stated in their reviews and is still noisy. The beaters ejected easily on both and both units cleaned up quickly after use.The bottom Line. The only improvement I personally found between the new 9 speed and my old 5 speed was the lower speed on #1 setting. The colour of the new 9 speed is nice. The side view photo below ( 4th from the left ) depicts the exact colour of the KHM926CU hand mixer. The tool bag is well made and a nice feature and will keep your hand mixer tools all in one area and easier to find. The power cord ( strap ) used for storing the unit on the 9 speed is also well made and well designed.I gave the KitchenAid KHM926CU 9 speed Digital Architect hand mixer FIVE STARS because there is absolutely nothing wrong with this product and I purchased it for $2.00 less than what I paid for my old KitchenAid 5 speed hand mixer many years ago. If your in the market for a hand mixer and budget is a priority, then the KitchenAid 5 speed at less than $50. is a quality product at and excellent price and you will not be disappointed with the 5 speed hand mixer. If you can afford a few dollars more and prefer the digital controls and the newer design over the 5 speed model, then by all means go for the 9 speed or even the 7 speed. Be patient. All small appliances items constantly go on sale through-out the year. I recommend this and any KitchenAid products when it comes to a Hand Mixer or a Stand Mixer.Variation: Color: Contour SilverSize: 9 SpeedStyle: Mixer

5.0 out of 5 stars Great hand mixer I normally used a stand mixer in the past but this demanded a lot of counter space as well as moving a heavy piece of equipment to do my mixing. In the interest of space and ease of cleaning I decided to purchase a hand mixer.I’ve now used this hand mixer to make a large variety of baked goods, from muffins, to cakes, some frosting and even bread. The mixer has a great number of speeds which is perfect for not flinging ingredients all over your counters. Additionally the interface to change the speeds is easy to use and very intuitive which is wonderful for times where you may want to start the mixing slow but then speed it up after the ingredients have begun to be incorporated with one and other. The mixer also came with a lot of attachments out of the box, the beaters are great for batters and frostings. However I was pleasantly surprised to see a pair of dough hooks and a whisk.I haven’t used the whisk yet but the dough hooks! let me tell you what, I never expected a hand mixer to be able to handle dough as well as this thing does. Such a small tool was able to handle enough dough for me to make two pizzas without even having to break out a stand mixer or manually knead at all.Lastly the hand mixer also came with some nice add-ons like a bag that’s able to hold all the attachments which will certainly help with not misplacing them.. or at least keeping them together so you’re not digging through drawers for one of the two beaters. There is also a great rubber strap on the cord for the hand mixer which helps hold the cord in a shortened bundled state rather than completely uncoiled.I would highly recommend this product based on my experience for it’s easy of cleaning, the power it’s able to produce, how easy it is to operate, and the versatility with the attachment’s that came with it.Variation: Color: Contour SilverSize: 9 SpeedStyle: Mixer

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong with this little workhorse! Great for small jobs and nice thoughtful features. I’m diggin my new mixer. I gave my little 5 speed hand mixer to my son who just got his own place. I had that for 30+ years and it is still looking new and going strong. For a lot of things, you just can’t beat Kitchen Aid! Since I went over to his house and it is sitting in a cabinet above the refrigerator (what was I expecting??) I was going to see if he wanted me to keep it here for him (wink), but decided to just get myself another one. I got this candy apple red 9 speed- it doesn’t really match anything else in the kitchen but it was too cute and won’t be on the counter anyway. I’m also getting away from trying to have everything match an aesthetic. Just getting what I like these days becuase, well, life it short and I want things that make me smile. OK, on to the real review. This little machine has some killer features. I really appreciate the extra tools including the small blender rod and the dough hooks for smaller jobs – I wish the blender rod was also all stainless but this may be designed this way for a reason with plastic, not sure. I have a stand tilt head mixer but sometimes for a small job, this gets it done with less fuss. Other thoughtful features, the lowest speed is LOW and SLOW, so you can start it very slow and not have flour go flying everywhere – that is bomb. I also appreciate the storage bag for the tools, the pivoting cord (you can stand the mixer up and pivot the cord to any side to orient it to where your plug is), and the cord has a silicone wrap. This is easier to store than my older one, looks adorable and feels very sturdy. It is a little bit heavier than my old mixer(not much) but thought I’d mention that in case dexterity/mobility is an issue for some. This may be due to the heavier motor with more speeds.Overall a great purchase. It did come with a tiny imperfection in the silver band around the unit. I just kept running my thumb over it and magically it smoothed out. I am one of those people who’d rather stick a needle in my eye than do a return, so glad this worked. One of the little beaters was a little sticky ejecting the first few times. Just did it a few more times and it self corrected. Cool this is US made in their Ohio factory. Always an added bonus. Thanks again Kitchen Aid –Variation: Color: Apple RedSize: 9 SpeedStyle: Mixer

5.0 out of 5 stars Game changer for me. Wanted one for years and years. Finally broke down and purchased and wish I hadn’t waited! Makes my baking projects so much quicker and easier. My buddy Arthur Itis has made hand-mixing a little more challenging, and this has been a game changer for me. Gripping the handle works out better for me than trying to hold on to a whisk for very long. Still not ready for a stand mixer, but if I do get there, it’ll likely be a KitchenAid. Always been the best.Variation: Color: Apple RedSize: 9 SpeedStyle: Mixer

5.0 out of 5 stars Love, Love, Love!!! I love this Kitchen Aid mixer! My previous hand mixer was quite old and still did the job in the boring way that old mixers do. It seemed like an extravagance to have 9 speeds on a hand-held mixer AND several attachments, but once I used this little gem, I was totally impressed with its versatility and power. Never going back!Variation: Color: Apple RedSize: 9 SpeedStyle: Mixer

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite go to for mixing Slow start works well. No flour or ingredients flying around the kitchen. Great for remixing peanut butter. I use one dough hook and it makes short work of that job. All the attachments seem well made and work perfectlyVariation: Color: Onyx BlackSize: 9 SpeedStyle: Mixer
