Frequently Asked Questions: Crystal Wine Decanter Carafe
What is the capacity and size of this crystal wine decanter carafe?
The decanter has a recommended volume of 750 ccm (25.361 oz) and an overall liquid capacity of 37-1/8 ounces, making it well-suited for a standard 750 ml bottle. It measures 230 mm (9.055 inches) in height and 124 mm (4.882 inches) in width.
Is this decanter safe to put in the dishwasher?
Yes, the decanter is durable and dishwasher safe. However, to preserve the crystal glass surface and maintain long-term brilliance, hand washing and using the RIEDEL Bottle Cleaner are recommended.

For young wines, you can turn the bottle directly into the decanter to let it splash, which maximizes aeration and smooths tannins. For older wines, pour slowly into the vessel to leave any resting sediment behind in the bottle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice for one-bottle dinners This is my 2nd decanter. I’ve had a glass one for about 4 years that can easily handle (2) 750ml bottles, and while I love that decanter it seems too big when I only want to decant 1 bottle so I can have a glass or two. I decided to try the Riedel decanter after looking around a while because its diameter won’t take up too much space in the cupboard and there were some decent reviews on it. My first impression was that it’s really thin walled, but I guess that’s a difference between crystal and glass (yes, I’m ignorant on that subject). However since I don’t plan to drop it, it shouldn’t be a problem. It seems perfect for (1) 750ml bottle which I pour through a decanting funnel to aerate it (I’ve uploaded a picture to show this decanter with a full bottle in it). After I have a glass or two, the neck of the decanter makes it really easy to pour the rest back into the bottle even without a funnel. So while you don’t have the most exposed surface area with a full bottle, this is the perfect size for the dinner table to hold what’s left after you’ve poured a couple glasses.
5.0 out of 5 stars A really excellent decanter for any red wine This an excellent decanter for any fine red wine. While the name says Bordeaux, it works well with any red wine. The name says magnum reflecting a capacity sufficient to hold two regular 750 ml bottles of wine. It is best used for single 750 ml bottles. This fills the decanter to just above the point of widest diameter which exposes the maximum amount of wine to air. The decanter also has a fairly slim profile so it is easy to store.Of course the Riedel decanter that exposes the most wine to air is the Riedel Magnum Ultra Decanter. But this is far more expensive, more cumbersome due to its width, and is made with leaded glass. So I prefer the Magnum Cabernet Decanter.Usage tips: The inside surface of the decanter is designed to attract the wine. Pour the wine slowly down the side of the decanter so it breathes while pouring. Maybe use soap to clean the inside ONCE when you first get it and be sure to rinse it really well. After, only use warm water to rinse the decanter. It will discolor over time from the red wine. A great two-step cleaning process is first Riedel 1-3/4-Inch Bottle Cleaner Beads and then Decanter Cleaning Brush – White.Highly recommended. If this review was helpful please let me know by voting for it.Variation: Style: CABERNET MAGNUM
5.0 out of 5 stars Simple elegance This Riedell wine Carafe is simple yet elegant. My whole collection of wine glasses and cocktail glasses are all Riedell so this carafe was a nice edition. There is room enough for two 750ml bottles, although I would recommend one at a time. The carafe is light weight and very easy to pour from. The lip design is so that there are hardly any drips. It arrived well packaged so no damage to the delicate body. I would highly recommend it and the pricing was very decent.Variation: Style: PERFORMANCE
5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and practical The glass is thin but not so thin as to worry about easily breaking it. With just a slight twist at the end, there is no dripping down the outside of the decanter. It looks elegant, not like something that belongs in the movie lab of a 1950’s mad scientist.I do find it odd that a 750 ml bottle puts the widest part of the decanter exactly halfway between the bottom and the level of the wine. I get aeration is not the primary aim of this particular decanter, but why make any part of wider then where the top level of the wine would be, unless the idea is you would decant half a bottle at a time. It still gets plenty of air, really, just odd to give it the most air half way through drinking it.The shape makes it extremely easy to clean and even stick a dish towel into to dry–low maintenance was a high priority for me.Simple and practical, which is what I wanted.Variation: Style: CABERNET
