4.0 out of 5 stars Good for snow cones, less so for Bingsu or Hawaiian Shave Ice Decided to let Bezos hold some of my money and try this out – my research online was inconclusive and photos/videos don’t really do justice to things like texture so I figured I had to dive in to try it out.The good:It’s easy to use and “just works” (provided you already have a stand mixer)There are four molds provided, so you can stockpile the little frozen pucks more convenientlyIt’s fast: it makes short work of the little pucksIt’s just an attachment for your stand mixer so it doesn’t take up much space in storageThe bad:Each puck is only good for MAYBE a small shave ice that you would get from a truck or shop in HawaiiThe components don’t feel sturdy, I imagine this would last a year or two at most with just summer usage and the molds for the ice are paper thin plastic – these things are going to easily crack/shatter if you aren’t extra cautious with them.This is the deal breaker for me, but even with the fine attachment the ice is still crunchy.This is a fine product and it does what it advertises; what it doesn’t advertise clearly is the texture of the final product, but really I’m only docking a star for the durability (or lack thereof). If you and your family love snow cones then this might be perfect for you but it’s no replacement for a proper shave ice machine. 5.0 out of 5 stars Another Quality Kitchen Aid Attachment Got this shaved ice attachment as we’ve got a couple kids and have play dates at the house on occasion. We had a stand alone shaved ice maker that used ice cubes, but it was quite loud and felt like it was going to break at any moment. This unit is quite different. It feels very solid (like most of the kitchen aid attachments we’ve gotten – metal meat grinder for example), and although it has quite a few parts, it’s pretty easy to put together. The molds for ice are a special size, and there are 4 in the box, but if you need more, they are kinda pricey. The other reviewers suggested making 4 ice blocks, removing and placing the ice in a zip lock bag, and making more to stock pile the ice. It takes some planning a few days ahead (depending on how many you need), but saves the extra cost.Of the fine vs course blade options, my wife and I preferred the fine version. I’d say at speed 10 on our mixer, it took under 15 seconds to chew through 1 ice block. Pull a lever, remove the base, dump the remaining piece of ice, insert new ice, and you can continue making more ice.Other than having a lot of pieces (not really an issue as we don’t wash ours if we just use ice), we love the attachment. I have purchased a slushie maker every year for the past 10yrs. And every year, my kids use them til they won’t work anymore. This attachment is amazing. No muscle work for anyone. Set it up, put the ice in, and turn the machine on. Best part is you don’t have to run the machine. While it’s shaving, you can get the flavoring out. It doesn’t take long to shave ice, and you don’t have to put the machine on fast. We put it on setting 2 or 3. This attachment gets used probably 5-7 times a day and it is still going strong. The little ice cups it comes up are amazing. I wish it came with more though.
