Product description

-
How can the Proofer improve my bread-making process?
The Proofer creates a consistent, warm environment that promotes proper fermentation and proofing. This controlled setting helps dough rise reliably, leading to better texture, volume, and overall quality in your bread.
-
What is the temperature range of the Proofer?
The Proofer can be set between 70°F and 195°F (21°C to 90°C), offering a versatile range for proofing dough, fermenting yogurt, and even slow cooking. The Proofer cannot cool below room temperature.
-
What is the ideal temperature for proofing bread?
For most breads—including yeast breads, sourdough, and sourdough starters—a temperature range of 75–85°F (24–29°C) works well. Cooler temperatures slow fermentation, while warmer temperatures speed it up.
-
How much power does the Proofer use?
The Proofer uses 200 watts, but it doesn’t run continuously. On average, it only heats about 30% of the time, resulting in energy usage similar to a 60-watt light bulb (approximately 0.06 kWh per hour).
-
Can I leave the Proofer on for extended periods?
Yes, the Proofer is designed for continuous, unattended operation. It can safely run for extended periods, making it ideal for long fermentation or proofing processes.

5.0 out of 5 stars surprised and pleased by how well this works I bought this on impulse and then almost returned it to recoup the money spent, but then thought “I may as well try it first.” I live in a warm, humid climate, so I didn’t think it would really make much difference in raising dough. Boy was I wrong — my proofing time was cut by at least a third and the dough is consistently beautiful every time. Definitely an upgrade to my baking. Then I tried the “slow cook” feature and was delighted at how well it worked. I can now use any pot in my kitchen for slow cooking — so I can make a single quart of something, or 12 quarts! I’m definitely going to be slow-cooking more food now.I haven’t yet tried culturing anything or sous-vide, so I won’t comment there. The comments seem bitterly divided in this area, so either there are a lot of bad units out there, or some people are just not using it correctly — or both! At any rate, mine works perfectly for all that I’ve tried so far, so fingers crossed the other functions will work too. When I’ve tested the temperatures, they do seem to match what I set them to.I like how easily it sets up and how neatly it folds down and snaps shut for storage. The first couple of times using it, I had to fiddle with it to make sure the lid was on properly — I wonder if some of the folks who had trouble are actually having heat escape with a lid that is not properly on. There is a trick to it, and the lid does NOT snap down on the expanded box, so you have to carefully check it visually. It’s not hard, and once I figured it out I was able to use it with literally ten seconds of effortless setup. There was careful attention paid to design on this gizmo. I could wish it were just a little larger to fit a 16-inch pan. Most of my stuff fits, though. I’ve gone through 3 stages with this thing:Stage 1: “I shouldn’t have bought this, but I’ll try it out before sending it back.”Stage 2: “This is pretty good. Maybe I’ll keep it. I’ll just store it on this high utility room shelf, out of the way.”Stage 3: “I’m using this way too often to keep taking the stepstool to the utility room. It gets a permanent kitchen spot so I can just pop it open and go!”Variation: Size: Proofer without Accessory Shelf
5.0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful product We’ve been making bread for a long time, and this proofer was a game changer. The Proofer arrived very securely packed. Included were very complete instructions, an offer to register and get three years warranty coverage, and a very nice recipe book. I unpacked the Proofer, read the manual and per the instructions, set it up for bread making, which was so easy I felt like I must have missed something, and we started the bread making process right then and there to see how the Proofer would do.Let me say that the bread that came out of the oven was the best we’d ever made. All we could say was; WOW! it was a new and very enjoyable experience not to have to cover the bread pans with plastic wrap, and letting the water in the tray provide humidity instead, which is much better for the bread dough. To be able to look through the window on top of the Proofer to see the dough rising was a new and great experience, which also made it much easier to know when to take it out of the Proofer, and put it in the oven.Set up, operation, and take down were very very simple and easy. This is a very quality built appliance, and is a must-have for our bread making. The engineering and thought that went into this Proofer is remarkable and commendable, and very much appreciated.I’ve read some reviews that mentioned the cost, inferring it was a bit expensive. Our feeling is that it is worth every penny and more. As stated before, this is a fine, high quality appliance and meets the highest standards of quality build, spot-on performance, and operational ease, and great results. In short; we absolutely love this Brod & Taylor Folding Proofer & Slow Cooker, and are looking forward to trying some of it’s other culinary capabilities. Thank you Brod and Taylor for offering such a fine product.Variation: Size: Proofer without Accessory Shelf
5.0 out of 5 stars This Brod and Taylor Bread Proofer/Slow Cooker is the best & customer service is exemplary!! Arrived on time. Set up was very easy. I noticed a very small chip on he heat pad, broken from the cover. I took pictures, contacted Brod and Taylor. They immediately sent me another cover, stating they believe in quality control. Customer service was exemplary!!! New cover arrived quickly. The control is on the base of he unit, which I love. Electronic controls, set to 80 degrees and immediately I feel the bottom warming up. I love everything about this!!! I set my dish inside to warm up while mixing my sourdough. Placed my sourdough in my Brod and Taylor bread proofer for each part of the process. Excellent!!!! So then I tried making 2 recipes!!! Found 2 dishes that fit nicely inside. It performed beautifully!!!! Quality of the unit is excellent!!! I tried one of those cloth ones and it didn’t work from the moment I plugged it in. This Brod & Taylor bread proffer cleans nicely, quality unit. It make making sourdough enjoyable!!! If I could give the Brod & Taylor bread proofer and their customer service 10 stars I would!!! I also have their Danish whisk & love that as well!!! This bread proofer is also a slow cooker, but I haven’t used that yet. The rack inside the proofer is quality!!!! Price wise, it’s a little more expensive but my bread rising quicker so I can finish faster….I am worth it and luckily my husband thinks so too (he loves sourdough bread!!!!).Variation: Size: Proofer without Accessory Shelf
5.0 out of 5 stars This Will Add Confidence to Bread Baking I never thought that I would spend the funds to give my bread dough a place to rise. That changed when I over proofed a dough so bad that I tossed it into the garbage. That was when I used the old “put it in the oven with the light on” location. Our new home has a counter depth oven which is smaller than our old one. The light ran the temperature up to almost 90 degrees inside which was not what our old oven light would accomplish. Result: bread dough that blew up like a balloon and fell flat like a tortilla in a short time period. Enter Brod & Taylor Proofer. In a home that is 67 degrees in the winter, this tool allows me to proof breads at a consistent 78 degrees. Couple this with a dough aliquot tube set sold here on Amazon and my proofing is nailed down.Other reviews will tell you dimensions and hard facts, so I will give my impressions and discoveries. It folds down into a laptop size so plan a spot for it in advance. It sets up without any drama; if you can open up a kids pop up book, you can set this proofer up. The heating plate never feels much over barely warm to the touch when operating at 78 degrees and is totally silent in operation. It will hold a 10 x 14 inch focaccia pan and any pan or bowl smaller. The small water pan sits under the included rack and will keep your dough from drying out during proofing. I still use plastic wrap on my doughs but I am a Luddite. You have just at 8 inches of height under the lid when closed and a Risesecret Aliquot Jar will fit easily inside the proofer next to your dough bowl if you are wondering.I have never had to clean it since nothing has spilled inside it. The instruction book is full of helpful information on proofing and slow cooking if you desire to do that. This is an expense that a baker needs to decide if they need it or they don’t. It will remove 1 variable in your bread baking; you can control the temperature that you proof dough which in turn controls your prep time. Add in an aliquot tube for dough rising percentage and you can add a lot more confidence in your bread results. My Mom baked hundreds of loaves without a proofer but she was a much better baker. I need all the help I can get so this proofer is wonderful.Variation: Size: Proofer without Accessory Shelf
5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for proofing your bread. This is the best product for proofing bread. It keeps a constant temperature. Because it folds for storage makes it very convenient. Have not tried it for slow cooking, but love it for proofing.Variation: Size: Proofer without Accessory Shelf
5.0 out of 5 stars Great proofer! If you have the room on your pantry shelf to keep it setup, fantastic! If you don’t that is okay too because you can fold it and stow it away.It is a slow cooker and a proofer. I haven’t used the slow cooker but I love it for proofing! The best thing I like about this one is it is big enough to actually proof your dough in the bowl, not just feed your starter. If your oven doesn’t have a proofer setting and your home is a little on the colder side, this is a game changer for proofing your dough!A must have for homes that aren’t warm enough.Variation: Size: Proofer without Accessory Shelf
5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy with this proofer! So happy with this purchase. It is the perfect helper in my cool kitchen! So nice that it folds down to a compact size for storing!Variation: Size: Proofer without Accessory Shelf
