The Brown Rice Activation (or GABA Brown Setting) activates brown rice by keeping the temperature inside the pan at about 104°F for 2 hours. By activating brown rice, GABA, one of the nutrients contained in brown rice, increases its amount 1.5 times as much as that contained in non-activated brown rice. GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is a type of amino acid said to lower blood pressure, improve kidney function, and relieve stress.

I am Asian and I take rice seriously and this appliance is one of the best purchases I had with Amazon so far. I got this Zojirushi Rice Cooker 2 months ago and this was our lifesaver during the entire quarantine period. Below are the Pros and Cons:PROS:1. It cooks high quality cooked rice consistently. I had cheap rice cookers in the past that dries out the rice but with Zojirushi…it is consistent. Yummy well cooked rice each meal.2. It has menu setting for Jasmine, Brown, Sushi, Porridge…you will never go wrong. Just follow the water measurement with the corresponding number of cups of rice you’re trying to cook.3. You feel it’s premium. From the bowl inside the rice cooker that is heavy and sturdy, to the machine itself. They did not compromise any of its parts.4. It has a retractable cord that makes the kitchen top clean looking without unnecessary dangling wires when the rice cooker is not in used.5. Easy to clean, the top part that collects all the steam is detachable. Being able to wash that part keeps the unit free from water stains.6. I like the singing part that indicates when the rice is cooked. It became our home’s meal time call.7. It’s ZOJIRUSHI…the Apple of rice cookers. You can never go wrong.CONS:1. It takes longer time to cook rice compared to the cheaper rice cookers in the market. Normally, a Jasmin rice can cook in about 30 to 35 minutes in a generic button down rice cooker. With this rice cooker it takes 55 to 59 minutes before you hear the song. With Sushi rice it takes 60 minutes, so you must plan your time when cooking and meal prepping. Usually I start cooking when I see that it has 25 minutes remaining time in its clock.2. COST. While it is worth every penny, it is a tad expensive than most rice cookers available in the market.
5.0 out of 5 stars Pricey but worth it. With all the options for rice cookers on the market and at prices that are significantly cheaper, one might be wondering why to get this rice cooker. For the same price, you can probably get something that only cooks rice but also has other functions as well. I was skeptical on buying this because 130 dollars for something that just cooks different types of rice seems like overkill, especially considering there are much cheaper options.I can tell you right now, this product is worth it. Period. I got this particular one because a 5 cup rice cooker is too big for just myself. The size of this model is pretty compact and the ease of use is extremely easy. I made brown rice (the biggest reason I bought it because I struggle with brown rice cooking) and after a hour and half of cooking, it came out PERFECT. No exaggeration, PERFECT. Not a single grain stuck to the bottom, incredibly fluffy and just down right perfect.Now, the down sides: The cook time is very long. Brown rice on a regular pot over a stove should take about 45 minutes. White rice takes about 25 minutes on a pot on the stove. For this machine, it takes 90 minutes for brown and 60 I believe for white rice. Now I know that is a long time but considering the rice comes out perfect with no fuss, it makes it worth it. Plus, the delayed start timer allows you to set a time to cook the rice at a particular time so it helps manage the long cook time. I will usually set the timer to start about 1.5 hour before I arrive home so when I get home it is cooked. The only other con is that the cool down is longer than I would like since I like to wash dishes right away but that’s a really minute complaint.All in all, this is 110% worth it. The price is high but the result is perfect rice with zero imperfections. What more can you ask for?
5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Rice Cooker for me and my smaller family, nice size and cook to the rice Took a large leap into higher end rice cookers for everyday eating, and I don’t regret it. The gap introduced by this over standard rice cookers is substantial. I think that you will still get the best results cooking it by pot and managing it yourself, however this is extremely easy to use and will cook the rice for you on all sides and provide a consistency with no hardened or stiffer sides of any rice in the cooking pot. Also the multiple settings are quite useful especially given that I use multiple types of rice personally, so I find the settings quite helpful – and they all work quite well.Easily storable and movable, with a retractable cable that works quite well. Comes with a rice ladle and ladle holder, that is more unnecessary than useful. However that is a small detail in this product as the overall rice cooker is probably one of the top end for your money machines you can buy. there are probably fancier and more consistent cookers out there, however they cost much more.
5.0 out of 5 stars longer cooking, but makes superior rice This is my impression after unboxing and using the rice cooker for the first time. It is simple to use. It took almost an hour cooking jasmine rice… but I knew that and planned by starting the rice early. It has a button to keep rice warm for up to 12 hours. I used that feature keeping the finished rice warm for about 20 minutes. Then I used the reheat button. It spent 9 minutes reheating the rice. I had tasted the rice when it finished cooking and also again after it had been kept warm & was then reheated. It tasted the same to me both times. I followed all the instructions which said to fluff the rice once it has finished cooking. I did that. Then when I was ready to reheat the rice, I sprinkled the top of the rice with about 1 tablespoon of water before closing the lid and pressing the reheat button. The cooker produced rice that had separate grains. It was slightly sticky (I like that) and the rice was more tender than I’ve ever tasted jasmine before. I asked my son what he thought of the rice from the new cooker and he said “It’s a lot softer.” I agree, the grains are softer yet keep their shape. We had a small amount of gravy with our rice. I noticed the rice did not soak up any of the gravy even though it was sitting in a puddle of it. This cooker does not make the pot full of little rice sponges I’ve come to know which other rice cookers always produce. A fork full of rice with just a little gravy felt wonderful in my mouth. It’s like the gravy was able to coat each grain and didn’t disappear into the rice grains. The gravy stayed on the outside of the rice. It was easy to taste both the rice and the gravy separately in my mouth. This helped make for a superior tasting meal. The rice cooled a little slower on my plate than rice made in other rice makers. Once the rice had cooled completely, I thought it still tasted really good. About the taste… it does taste somehow slightly different than the flavor I’m familiar with (for jasmine rice,) but I like this ‘new’ flavor just as much. So far I’m delighted with what this rice cooker can do!

Most rice cookers either don’t easily make small quantities of rice or are so ifficult to clean that they are not worth the effort. I had gotten into the habit of making an average amount of rice and throwing away 2/3 of it after a few days. By the thrid day, that rice is staleEnter the rice cooker…Setup is easy. It ships with a measuring cup. This matches the markings on the inside of the bowl The markings are easy to read. I have made white rice, brown rice, GABA brown rice and a mixture of wild and brown rice. Prep is the same for all.Cooking takes longer than usual. Even white rice takes about an hour. The GABA brown rice can take about 4 hours. Plan ahead. But it is mindless. Select the correct rice from the menu and press start. No need to enter amounts, etc. When done, it sings a song. And holds the rice for quite a while. Alwasy perfect rice.Cleanup is probably the best. The bowl is heavy duty nonstick Let it cool and wash it out. I always hand wash.This is a workhorse appliance I use it about four times a week. It is fun to be able to setup for the rice, forget it, and turn to the rest of the meal. Somewhere along the way, the rice cooker sings it’s happy song. And it’s time for dinner!It is VERY expensive. I have had cheaper rice cookers before. I am never looking back. I am very happy that I spent the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Brand We had a Zojirushi rice maker that finally died after over 20 years of reliable and repeatable service. My wife doesn’t appreciate rice like I do, and replaced it with a Black & Decker. It did the job, but the rice wasn’t nearly as fluffy and tasty, and the bottom 1/4 inch was always slightly burnt and inedible.This one cooks white and brown rice perfectly, produces rice with the perfect moisture content, and never burns it. The entire batch is usable and its taste and texture is uniform.My favorite rice is from Toyama Prefecture and I’m able to buy it from an Import Export broker called “The Rice Factory”. The rice is not milled until just prior to shipment so you can have it milled from brown 0% (Brown) 10%, 30%, 50%, 70% or 100% (White). I always have 100% and 50% on hand and even though this Zojirushi doesn’t have a corresponding preset it makes perfect rice at the White Rice setting.BTW, don’t let the 3-cup capacity deter you. “Cup” refers to the included Zojirushi 5oz cup, not a standard 8oz cup. 3 “cups” of uncooked rice yields 9 generous servings of cooked rice. This cooker’s compact size means it’s easy to take along almost anywhere and it’s perfect for overlanding, RV camping, glamping or anywhere wired or generator 120VAC is available.Anyway, I am very pleased with this rice cooker
